The Art Of Keeping Calmadmin
When your car is involved in a minor accident through no fault of your own it’s perfectly understandable if your mind starts to race, but the most important thing is to stay calm and methodically work through a few simple steps.
Assess The Situation
Even the most minor collisions can cause injury so take a few moments to compose yourself and give yourself the once over. Avoid jumping out of your vehicle and confronting the other driver immediately, no matter how clearly in the wrong they were. Be calm, be confident, but most of all make sure that you are ok.
Accidents are an example of when safe practices have broken down for whatever reason, so the most important thing you can do is to pay extra attention to the health and safety of you, your passengers and those around you in the minutes directly after an accident.
Secure your vehicle and turn off the ignition whilst your passengers safely get out, taking care to assess the surrounding environment as they do so. This isn’t the time for drastic or heroic gestures, it’s all about keeping safety at the forefront of your mind.
If you have been involved in an accident due to the careless actions of another driver your first instinct may be to become aggressive and give them a piece of your mind. Whilst you may think that this will make you feel better, it will in fact only inflame the situation.
No matter how irritated you are, keep your emotions in check and make sure that the other driver is ok. They may require assistance in safely securing their vehicle or they may be a perfectly competent driver who has been quite shaken up by what just happened. Whilst you intend to lodge a claim to recoup your losses, there’s no need to become aggressive as that’s no good for anybody.
Document The Situation
Taking photos will allow you to show the damage done to each vehicle when you come to lodge your claim, but you need to go about it the right way.
Don’t jump out of the car and start pushing your iPhone in the other driver’s face. Simply explain that you would like to take some photos for your records. If you voice your intentions in a calm manner you’ll find that the other party is cooperative and will likely do the same.
Leave It To The Experts
Pushing though a claim can be time consuming and stressful so why not leave the hard work to the experts? With everything taken care of for you, you’ll be able to devote your time and energy to what you do best.
